On 2 February 2022, Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, discussing the new employment law, as amended (the “New Labor Law”), came into force, requiring all employees to transition from unlimited-term contracts to fixed-term contracts by 1 February 2023.
On 25 January 2023, the UAE Cabinet issued Ministerial Resolution No. 27 of 2023 (the “Resolution”), extending the deadline from 1 February 2023 to 31 December 2023. This will be a welcome relief for many employers working around the clock to meet the original deadline. The Resolution will come into effect from the date of publication in the official gazette, which is yet to be confirmed.
