Overview

Our Dispute Resolution Group’s primary goal is to effectively manage risk and resolve disputes pursuant to our clients’ strategic interests – be it through amicable negotiation, litigation or arbitration.

Headed by F. John Matouk – Founding Partner of the firm – the Dispute Resolution Group consists of 3 Partners, 2 Senior Associates, and 17 fee-earners.  Grounded in both common and civil law jurisdictions, our team provides our clients with a comprehensive dispute resolution service in both English and Arabic before international and regional arbitral tribunals as well as before Egyptian civil, commercial, criminal, administrative and labor courts.

Matouk Bassiouny’s Dispute Resolution Group is active in Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) proceedings as well as in Egyptian courts representing clients in high-value and high-profile disputes in the automotive, construction, heavy industry, manufacturing, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, real estate, telecommunications and tourism sectors.

  • Representation of a major Egyptian real estate developer listed on the Egyptian stock exchange before the Egyptian State Council with respect to the annulment of a real estate development license involving the Egyptian Tourism Development Authority.
  • Representation of a European glass manufacturer, a European tire manufacturer and a European electrical parts manufacturer respectively in successfully negotiating the amicable resolution of a major industrial labor strike in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Labor office, the Ministry of Labor and Manpower as well as local law enforcement agencies.
